NEW: Vermont kicked off an ambitious effort in 2015 to clean up waterways and meet tougher EPA restrictions.

But after a decade and nearly a billion dollars spent, potentially toxic algae still lingers in Lake Champlain. What happened?

🌊 We must invest in our waterways.

Bath’s beautiful river & canal aren’t just part of our heritage, they can be part of our future too. Our waterways could generate renewable energy, move water where it's needed & reduce flood risk.

I met the Inland Waterways Association to discuss this potential.

Waikato Regional Council had been working on Plan Change 1 for 14 years. It'd just been signed off by the environment court. This government chucked it out.

We deserve better, our waterways deserve better.

West Virginia's governor has been polling at 30% approval and a solid quarter of the geographic state doesn't have clean water from mine run off or broken down infrastructure. Raw sewage in homes and waterways is commonplace in the coalfields.

The governor held back clothing vouchers for children.
Callais backlash was a huge part of this but I need people to understand it was *much* broader than that. West Virginia, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee didn't swing because of Callais.
Southern voters swung 20 points toward the Democrats.

Our lovely humpback friend spent another day in Puget Sound in waterways around Tacoma & S Vashon. Some years we see individuals who spend extended periods of time in one area, this year it’s Falcon & humans are quite pleased.

NEW: Despite a legal requirement to do so, Vermont never audited a water project that’s cost nearly a billion.

“I find it amazing that they haven’t done the audit and that somebody in the legislature did not hold them to account,” said a former lawmaker.

Vermont Was Supposed to Get an Audit of Its Lake Champlain Cleanup. It Never Happened.
Halfway through a 20-year push to get Vermont’s waterways in line with tougher EPA standards, some lawmakers worry the project’s strategies aren’t as cost-effective as they could be — especially as a ...

If vessels like these aren't safe merely navigating our inland waterways, they will never survive the forces of tsunami waves and currents in those same waterways.
Canada’s new West Coast pipeline project could mean two million barrels of diluted bitumen travelling through one of the world’s most biodiverse inland seas every other day.

Less fun fact: they also give off half of all microplastics
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Every few years, the tires on your car wear thin and need to be replaced. But where does that lost tire material go? The answer, unfortunately, is often waterways, where the tiny microplastic particle...

The water privatisation experiment has failed, we must stop pumping public money into these companies who've dumped raw sewage into our waterways.

I'm calling on the government to place Thames water into Special Administration - now.
