I haven't looked at the numbers lately, but there aren't a lot of Wegies in the U.S. compared to Maine Coons and many other cat breeds so most folks never have met one (they're great).

The kitten pictures on the breeder website that caused me to write to them thinking surely that magnificent cat had been adopted but it was a year later and their last litter of Wegies and they still hadn't found homes for two boys (Isbjorn & Ivarr).
#TBT to Isbjorn when he was 5 months old & 3 months old (we hadn't yet met). He was shameless even then:

'Wegies' have short front legs which allow them to climb down a tree head first - most cats don't do that. Merlin also has tuffs of hair between his toes. Murray looks like he could be part Forest cat, for sure!

Going forward, I think I'll ONLY get Maine Coons or Wegies. Theyre my specialty and i love how loyal and loving they are. New England being cold as fuck really highlights those two in particular

Our Wegies weren't at all lap cats, but Isbjorn was a friendly lap adjacent cat who occasionally would walk onto a lap for a little while. Very floofy, very playful and smart and entertaining. (We did adopt him as an adult.)

I do firmly believe in adopting cats from shelters and that's where most of mine have come from. I was looking at adopting cats who had retired from breeding or being shown when I stumbled on Isbjorn; I had researched cat breeds & was fascinated by Wegies.
These are the kitten pictures that haunted me after I happened to admire pictures of Norwegian Forest Cat kittens on a local breeder’s webpage. I got in touch ages later, assuming all the kittens must have been adopted, but Isbjorn somehow was still around & we adopted him as a young adult.

You just haven't listened to enough wegies. I have this problem with Korean, but less with Japanese: it's difficult for me to distinguish the sounds and identify words. This is just because I consume way more Japanese media than Korean media.
