Lleu Llaw Gyffes, a powerful Welsh warrior, was cursed by his mother Arianrhod to never have a human wife. Gwydion, his father, and Math, his great-uncle, counteracted this curse by creating a wife, Blodeuwedd, from the flowers of the forest.

Blodeuwedd, in Welsh mythology, represents a complex symbol of freedom, being transformed from a forced, artificial wife into an untamed owl. She defies patriarchal, pre-ordained roles, and with her punishment she reclaimed her liberation, wisdom, and autonomy.

In the original myth, Blodeuwedd was turned into an owl by Gwydion as punishment, and shunned by other birds. Modern views often see this as liberation. As an owl, she is free from human expectations, a creature of the night, and a symbol of wisdom and wildness.

In Welsh mythology, the giant king is named Brân, a word that means "crow" or "raven". His name directly connects him to the raven and crow, reinforcing the bird's association with kingship in Celtic lore.
