”Death Blowing Bubbles” is my Fine Whitework study of part of the ornamental ceiling of the Holy Grave Chapel in Michaelsberg Abbey, Germany. Here Death is depicted blowing bubbles to symbolise the fragility of life, which I think is perfectly reflected in the delicate nature of Whitework 🪡

Saw some really good Regency dress at the viewing of “Empire of Fashion: The Barreto Lancaster Collection of Napoleonic Regency Dress,” Kerry Taylor’s upcoming auction. Looooved seeing such great goldwork and whitework on display. I even ended up matching one of the lots up for sale!

Looking at a collar in isolation, allows a more considered view. We can appreciate details of its hand worked satin stitch & fluted edges. I've not been crafting much lately, but I did manage to finally finish the whitework for my Bunad shirt. Two cuffs and one collar. I started this process in early September, so it took me 3 months of who knows how many hours of work to do these three. I've learned a lot! Next step on this project +
Three strips of embroidered white cloth are laid out on a blue cloth backing, 2 short and one longer. There's whitework embroidery in a diamond pattern, using geometric lines and frames. It looks quite delicate.

I just ordered 5 books about whitework embroidery from the library, to be sent to my local branch. so that should indicate what my next project is about 😁

I'm making a shirt, and I want whitework embroidered cuffs and collar! I don't know how to do at all, and the "pattern" was ridiculously sparse.
