This was the first Powerful Owl I ever heard, and then saw. I'm very lucky to go out and see so many POwls. You're probably not supposed to have favourites, but this one is probably not so secretly mine. #birds #wildoz #brisbane

The Tawny Frogmouth nest on my street has a baby! Yesterday, I could see some light fluff, but the male adult was sitting on it firmly. Today he decided to let it out.

Mammal Monday
This curious dingo was snapped as it checked out one of our trail cameras at Mungala. Dingoes are an important species in the AW region, environmentally and culturally.

I understand that posting of nests is frowned upon but the level of blending detail afforded by this Eastern yellow robin is next level. Marvel.

I found this green flower beetle in the bathroom yesterday, it didn’t look healthy.
Today it was moving around and looking fit, water and some rest?
it readily climbed up my hand, I went out to the garden and it finally took off from my arm.

Look at this giant 😃.

This particular guy (sun orchid) has been appearing each season alongside this succulent for years. It is as long as my arm this year, and the stem is rivaling the size of the plant.

Time for another #AwesomeBirds #WildOz edition. This chatty chappy will be familiar to many, their ascending chattery call featuring in soundscapes across the country. Their appearance is just as distinctive, easily seen in the understory as the flit about in their perpetual quest for insect prey.

A new chick! Yesterday we went to check on this pair of POwls that we'd first seen last year. Having decided they, like a few other pairs had not bred this season, it was a wonderful surprise to see we were wrong. First known chick for this pair! #birds #wildoz #brisbane

Endemic to Western Australia, Heart-leaf Poison was first described in 1811 and then featured in Curtis’s Botanical Magazine in 1820 (Plate 2212, Vol 58), where it was described as a “handsome shrub” 🌿

Gastrolobium bilobum - Heart-leaf Poison

This shrub might be beautiful when in flower, but it's also highly toxic. The leaves, flowers & seeds all contain high levels of fluoroacetate, which is poisonous to non-native animlas.

Another new Powerful Owlet! This from a pair we found near the river a couple of years ago. This is the first time they've been known to breed. We still need to figure out where their hollow is.
