Ok but I don't want scarce community resources like electricity and water to go to data centers. I want them to go to human beings (electricity, water) and pronghorn antelope and purple sage and elk and basin wildrye and even wolves (water). Tech isn't sharing resources, it just takes.
Starting to see "they don't deserve good faith" reactions to this and the problem I have with that is we have examples of actual good faith negotiations that landed tens of millions of investment into local communities and, in at least one instance, residents responded by voting everyone out.
First, and most importantly, anti-data center folks refuse to believe data center developers and tech companies engage in good faith. They have staked out a purely reactionary position. Negotiation is useless. Just reject everything by default.

They're playing this as Always Defect.

Sneaking in a pic for the #blueskyartshow for the #light theme. Really liked how the light hit this Canadian Wildrye. The backdrop here looks *sparkly* to me 💫 #februArty #photography #nature #outdoorphotography #naturephoto #nikon #naturephotography #amazingnature #wildrye #art #bluesky

It feels good to help plant native dune grass at Ocean Beach.

Still amazed that native beach wildrye grass is growing and expanding Ocean Beach naturally.

The tech companies come into the desert and they demand our water for their servers and we don't have enough water to run the plagiarism engine. We need that water for the antelope and the bighorn sheep and the purple sage and the sagebrush and the basin wildrye and to drink and shower.

Anyway today I put down a gallon bag of my own seed mix: bottlebrush squirreltail (Elymus elymoides), a small native bunchgrass that can outcompete cheatgrass; Idaho fescue (Festuca idahoensis), a native western fescue; and basin wildrye (Leymus cinereus).

Thanks to Jim Watkins, our @sfrecpark.bsky.social photographer, for taking this great photo of the Ocean Beach dune grass planting day, showing the beach wildrye and harvesters in the foreground, and folks planting in the distance.

They're all three perennial bunchgrasses with deep roots. Basin wildrye was the dominant grass in this area when Europeans arrived. The bottlebrush squirreltail will help keep back cheatgrass in the pasture where I put the seed down, giving the bigger grasses time to establish.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s dune grass planting with volunteers. Thanks to Peter for the early training on how to retrieve American Dune Grass at Ocean Beach.

The beach wildrye transplants may be small now, but they will grow to fill the sandy area at Judah in the coming years.
Rec & Park joined volunteers & environmental organizations to kick off a dune replanting project at Ocean Beach today. The effort aims to restore the health of the beach’s vital dune ecosystem, enhance biodiversity, & protect native species. Details here: tinyurl.com/3j8chdhn

I am bringing 1-2 rolls of electric netting and the yearnings of a man who has never successfully grown primitive grains because it's too humid here and they grow fungus and die. The fungus looks cool though.

Some 100 volunteers helped replant native grass beach wildrye along dunes near the intersection of Judah & Great Highway. The newly planted grass, surrounded by temporary fencing, will help stabilize the dunes to prevent further erosion & restore the health of the beach.

My June 17th wasn’t nearly as fun as your June 17th (getting started with grasses, Psathyrostachys juncea I think)
