Will #WiltshireCouncil have an Active Travel and Cycling Champion I wonder?
Big news for me! I've just been announced as the Active Travel and Cycling Champion for Oxfordshire County Council.

As this is an Oxfordshire-wide role, I'm very keen to know more about rural routes especially.

Shout out to the Lib Dems for appointing an opposition councillor - they're serious. 💚

Following a report of tree obstruction and broken stile to #WiltshireCouncil, both issues have been resolved. Trees removed and stile and steps rebuilt. It's a good feeling to know that I can make a difference for my community and the system works.😊

Incredibly proud of our Newly Qualified OTs for creating new resources on #Fibromyalgia as part of our commitment that anyone can be a change maker.

There is room on public highways to accommodate all users equitably. It just needs a different perspective, imagination and reallocation of public space. Removing just one car storage bay has benefited many more residents who walk or run. @cycledevizes.bsky.social #WiltshireCouncil
On site this morning checking out some completed (almost) schemes. Some before and afters for you:

Stop with the balanced approach to LTP4 #WiltshireCouncil and prioritise active travel to decarbonise transport in Wiltshire. @cycledevizes.bsky.social @wiltshiregreens.bsky.social
One of the MOST IMPORTANT THINGS your city could do to become more healthy, sustainable, livable, affordable, equitable, successful — stop pretending to “balance” transportation modes, and commit to PRIORITIZING walking/rolling, biking, public transit. HT @dublincycling.bsky.social’s graphic

This is how to achieve #visionzero #WiltshireCouncil it needs actions to limit car use, remove space for cars and increase parking charges. Investment for alternatives like separate cycle lanes and regular, cheap buses. Let’s see if those delivery plans for LTP4 contain these measures?
“They cut speed limits, changed street design, removed space for cars… Now it appears that work is paying off. #Oslo & #Helsinki are reaping the rewards of committed action on making their roads safer, reducing pedestrian fatalities to zero last year.” #VisionZero www.theguardian.com/world/2020/m...
How Helsinki and Oslo cut pedestrian deaths to zero
After years of committed action, neither city recorded a single pedestrian fatality in 2019

I'm also not comfortable with this situation in #WiltshireCouncil It has a cabinet system which in my opinion demeans the status of any elected member not privileged to enjoy a cabinet post www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/2428054...
