The @ucdavisengineering.bsky.social Dean’s Undergraduate Challenge starts in one hour. 32 teams. 120 students. Escape rooms. Windsail competition. Egg protection obstacle course (pendulum impact stage being set up in image). Can’t wait to let the all day games begin!

This is just about webs in general(especially those used by orb weavers), but there are spiders that create rope bridges over rivers, spiders that windsail/paraglide, terrestrial spiders that create "diving bells" to dive underwater, & more.

There's also the nonsense about increased windsail. I've seen ivy covered trees go down in winds and the ivy gets the blame. The fact that one side of the roots zone is tarmac and the other side is ploughed is ignored.

I only saw the two sailboats, there weren't very many. I did see somebody trying to set up a windsail, but it was so windy he was having trouble getting it together. I don't know if he made it out.

I wanted some snowdrops to put in the lawn for next year, and went to the Botanic Garden, and lo! they had half price snowdrops. They put them in a big paper bag which acted as a windsail so I nearly blew over on the walk home.

The girl in that ad is not even 30 now if my math is correct. Makes me feel old! But that was one of the best ads our campaign ran in 2004, though the flip flop windsail one is indeed a memorable one.

I still ain’t fond of Daughters & Ryan’s Windsail blend of pipe tobacco. It’s too damn light, smokes too hot, and just doesn’t have a satisfying flavor. But, I still have some of it left and no money to buy more (or to buy cannabis flower instead), so here we are.
