I recall seeing that Newman was sacked as Christ Church sexton in 1789. But the church warden who did that, Dr. Amos Windship, fell into disgrace himself.
You've go documentation that Newman was back ringing the bells in 1796, so it looks like he got his main job back.

Read: "Hyperion" (Dan Simmons). Okay, so, I cheated: I read the Endymion duet *before* this one, because they showed up at the thrift store. And I ended up really liking those. Going back now to Hyperion, I know how the author ended up weaving these plot threads together and ... I'm kinda impressed.
