I lived like that in my house in Cumbria 20yrs. Only heat was woodburner in kitchen. I miss my old life & hate this flat & not looking forward to winter but I don't dread it the way I used to, waking to ice inside window, 2C in bedroom. No central heating here tho either, but much milder climate.

Ours is a woodburner but last night I didn't really sit down until 8pm by which time it wasn't worth lighting it for just a couple of hours. Today, however... 🤔

I don’t know if this is still an option, but when we looking at building in Waimakariri, and then when we got the consent for the woodburner (Hutt City), you could go in and sit down with someone in the consents team who would talk you through everything. Maybe worth calling and asking?

I did light the woodburner last night but not so cold tonight so staved it off for a bit longer, plenty of sun today so the house is still at 19 degrees. Keeping an eye on forecasts though.

Second morning in a row we've had to put the heating on to take the chill out of the house.

Desperately trying not to have to buy heating oil until November and woodburner isn't being reinstalled for another 10 days.....
