Copper And Cobalt #ShareMondays2026

Although the #SmallCopper #butterfly is on the #wing from April to October, this is the earliest I’ve ever seen one out in the #WoodlandGardens in #BushyPark! @theroyalparks.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social @ldnwildlifetrust.bsky.social #nature #wildlife
A photograph of a Small Copper butterfly (Lycaena phlaeas) resting on a purple-blue hybrid bluebell (Hyacinthoides × massartiana) which are a cross between the British and Spanish bluebell varieties. The butterfly is positioned in the centre-left of the frame, with its wings partially open, showcasing its distinctive markings: Forewings: Bright copper-orange with prominent dark brown/black spots and a thick, dark brown outer margin. Hindwings: Predominantly dark brown with a vibrant orange band running along the lower edge. Body and Features: The body is dark, and the delicate antennae are visible, tipped with small white marks. The wing shape appears slightly rounded, which is a characteristic sometimes used to distinguish females. The background consists of soft-focus green stems and foliage, creating a dreamy, blurred effect (bokeh). The overall lighting is soft and ethereal, emphasising the butterfly's vibrant orange against the cool purple and green tones. The Small Copper is a common, widespread species known for its territorial behavior and preference for warm, dry habitats. In the UK, it is the only representative of the "copper" subfamily. About The Small Copper (courtesy of The Wildlife Trusts website): The small copper is a small butterfly that is on the wing throughout the summer between April and October. Males are territorial and can be seen basking on bare ground or rock waiting for females, every now and again chasing off other insects that encroach on their space. Adults can be seen feeding on ragwort and thistles, while the caterpillars feed on common sorrel and sheep's sorrel. Found in dry, sunny habitats, including heathland, woodland edges, waste ground and downland.

A vibrant woodland scene with a clear stream reflecting the trees and sky. On the right, a large moss-covered tree trunk with gnarled branches extends over the water. The opposite bank features lush green grass, various trees, and flowering bushes, including a striking red-leafed tree and white-flowered shrubs. The background shows more dense green foliage and a bright blue sky with hints of white clouds.

Firework Foliage #ShareMonday2025

WARNING‼️ NO WILDLIFE IN THIS IMAGE 😂 Not like me at all but, this week I was mostly entranced by #autumnal #acers in #BushyPark #WoodlandGardens 🍁🍂 @theroyalparks.bsky.social @sheclicksnet.bsky.social #nature #trees #autumncolours #fujifilm_uk #fujifilm_x_series
This landscape aspect image is a study of acer tree leaves turning autumnal, with a deep orange, blurred backdrop of swamp cypress leaves. Swamp cypress where introduced to the UK in the 17th century and are one of only a few conifers that are deciduous, the feathery leaves turning orange or russet-red in autumn, dropping them in the winter. The left side of the image is predominantly green and the right side is predominantly deep orange. The leaves of the acer tree, which have seven pointed lobes, are largest and in sharp focus in the centre and the left side. They have a mix of colours from rich forest green, paling to lime green, yellow, orange, red and hints of purple. Between the foreground leaves and the orange background are partially blurred acer leaves hanging down from the other side of the tree's canopy. They are mostly green and yellow, seemingly floating in the air like polka dots against the orange background on the righthand side.

My assistant #Pearly helps with scouting around the #WoodlandGardens and natural vegetation on the acreage to see what needs to be done before winter.
#Caturday #CatSky #garden #Alberta 🌱🌿🐈‍ #gata
Senior cat, wide in the middle, black with white down her front/underneat and feet, sits with her body mostly facing the camera, her head turned back over her shoulder. She is on a narrow mowed path with some woodland garden beds behind her, native understory vegetation to the left, under a spruce tree, and a large rough grey balsam poplar trunk to the right. Farther back a little sun is coming partway through trees and undergrowth out of the frame and creating a golden glow and patches of light in the light shade. Vegetation all over is a mix of green and gold.
