Here's a step by step guide to stop Chrome trying to use the 4GB local AI model it secretly downloads:
1. Go to chrome://settings/system and disable "On-device AI"
2. Go to chrome://flags and disable all the flags in the 2nd and 3rd images.
3. Delete the model folder from your Chrome user data.

The article doesn't explain what to do to remove this and prevent it from re-downloading.
If I enter into the browser "chrome://flags/" I can scroll down to "Writer API for Gemini Nano" (followed by the Rewriter, Proofreader, Summarizer, LiteRT). (1/1 - continued ...)

Chrome's hardware requirements to run the Gemini nano. I'd totally forgotten that this was shipping starting Chrome 138. The Language Detector and Translator APIs work on desktop only in Chrome. The Prompt API, Summarizer API, Writer API, and Rewriter API work in Chrome when the following conditions are met: Operating system: Windows 10 or 11; macOS 13+ (Ventura and onwards); or Linux.

To prevent or remove this #AI trash from Google Chrome, go to:

chrome://flags

Disable the entries for:

• the optimization guide on-device model
• Prompt API

Then restart the browser, and manually delete the folder.
