More generally I just don't think WYCA is at the right geography to be useful. It's hard to make the argument IMO that Leeds is more economically connected to Keighley or Pontefract (within WYCA) than it is to York, Harrogate or Selby (outside WYCA). As a level of govt I find it a bit redundant!

More generally I just don't think WYCA is at the right geography to be useful. It's hard to make the argument IMO that Leeds is more economically connected to Keighley or Pontefract (within WYCA) than it is to York, Harrogate or Selby (outside WYCA). As a level of govt I find it a bit redundant!
Well at least it isn't as bad as the WYCA map with three Warringtons and two Huddersfields.

The obvious solution is to let Local gov own it by reinstating the infrastructure levy that was originally part of the WYCA deal, allow Leeds* to borrow to fund it and allow councils full control over roads and what obligations are owed to the utilities that use them.

3/ Take WYCA. Before May, all five of its councils were Labour run. Now Reform UK controls Wakefield and Calderdale, will lead Bradford as a minority, and is the largest party in Kirklees (still unclear who will run things there). Labour also lost its majority in Leeds, but is still largest party.

Well, Metro was the brand name for WYPTE from 74 on and then WYCA.
Maybe they needed a switch because the rising use of metro to mean mass transit would remind people that there isn't any here.
My own preference would be to call it
West Yorkshire Public Transport Network. It's snappy.
