So today I had a C lesson by a clanker cuz I didn't realize in idiomatic C you try to omit the typedef for your structs and you have to say

void * bs_function(struct yourtype * blah) { // stupidshit }

explicitly, coming from C++ obviously where you don't say struct or class explicitly bf the type

Implementing a function for argument of type T:Tr and T=Box<dyn Tr>
Instead of implementing Tr for all Types with those Bounds you could also put the bounds on the function you want to call. Sadly this needs an AsRef for every type that implements Tr. I tried to get rid of it by using borrow, but then type annotations for O were needed. play.rust-lang.org ### Rust Playground A browser interface to the Rust compiler to experiment with the language If it would be fine for you to call your function with &[&YourType] then you could also do the bounds fn take_tr<T>(arr: &[T]) where T: Deref<Target: Tr>, { and then you don't need the AsRef impl for anymore.

one pattern i kind of like (if you want to store the result for performance reasons at least) is doing something along the lines of

data YourType = {
...
derived : Lazy Blah
}

and then having a smart constructor that inserts a lazy computation for the derived value.
