Leo is such a boring name. I was really hoping they would choose a name of ‘popes’ from the very earliest centuries, from before legalisation of the church — like Zephyrinus or Telesphorus or Hormisdas. Not too late to switch to Agapetus, either.

Everyone is all "will the new pope be Francis II" and I think he should be the second, but of one of those early popes with a wild name. Eleutherius II. Zephyrinus II. Hyginus II. Just have fun with it, y'know?

We can presumably set the latest 'earliest to be accepted' as Pope Pontian (230-235) given that he's referred to in a physical inscription in the Catacomb of Callixtus. Presumably the accounts of that are sufficient to confirm back to Zephyrinus (199-217) who ordered Callixtus to create it.

As a Catholic, I can reassure you, ones he‘s Pope (if he does, that is) he‘ll choose a more common name such as Adeodatus, Eurychianus, Telesphorus or Zephyrinus, to give a few examples. They all do :)
