the initiative process was one of the great jewels of the Progressive Era. during my lifetime it has almost exclusively been used for idiot bullshit
Why is California proposition literally either

A. Raises income tax by 0.2% to fund one guy's pet project
B. Provide a living stipend for orphans [billionaires spend $300 million opposing]
C. Loophole written in a Klingon that you should most definitely vote no to

What's happening there?
-zoning changes that are actually producing results
-public works investments via a new streets levy
-best-in-state renter protections passed this week
-funding public transit
-eliminating parking mandates
