Car dealers are a reliable and influential power bloc for Republicans. Today on Assigned, @emarcadia.bsky.social writes that Democrats should politicize them and pursue them and other bastions of Republican power as relentlessly as Republicans have pursued the Democratic coalition.
Consider the Car Dealerships - Assigned Media
Republicans have long waged war against Democratic constituencies. What if we turned the tables?

just eating like 10 hearts of palm like an extremely normal person
Just add some sauerkraut and you’ve got the full range of delicious white MAHA food. Pretty much all any real American would ever need to live a healthy and happy life.

Also illustrated by the (I think?) French official who said that they can't leave the security of Europe in the hands of voters in Wisconsin every four years. It would appear the US is widely (and rightly) being viewed as an unreliable ally. And it'll take a while for that to come back--if ever.

Republicans, in their infinite wisdom, left a big gambling loophole in the Medicaid work requirements.

I'm no fan of the gambling industry, but if you are on Medicaid and struggling to deal with the work requirements, taking a $580 bet on both sides of an outcome is one way of getting around them.

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft.
Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1

holy shit, this is the whole ballgame in a single paragraph

gAI systems require mass theft of copyrighted works, for the explicit purpose of replacing the market for the people they stole from, and the people in charge knew what they were doing ahead of time, and did it anyway

I remember when polio put my friends into iron lungs.

We lined up at school to get vaccinated. We eradicated the disease. We protected the common good and saved lives.

Now, two MORE unvaccinated people have died from measles.

What RFK Jr. is doing to public health in America is a disgrace.

At risk of being too strong:

The best scientists are those who understand that every model is flawed (always wrong but sometimes useful), that math is simply a model of the world and not the real world, and that truth comes from consensus across communities of humans.

i’m sorry but this entire worldview seems not just evil but deeply stupid? the far future is fake! it doesn’t exist! what matters are people here and now!
Nick Beckstead, noted longtermist and "effective altruist,” just comes out and says it:

"But it now seems more plausible to me that saving a life in a rich country is substantially more important than saving a life in a poor country, other things being equal."

threatening us with a good time
The most important medium-term consequence of Texas turning blue will be the rapid dismantling of the Electoral College, precisely because Republicans know this.
In terms of national politics, the Republican can't win the White House if they lose Texas. Also: Trump will still be president for two more years, burning up the GOP's brand along the way.

by two orders of magnitude

Micah’s right, a lot of people will just switch careers because it’s not feasible for them to relocate to China
some of them will but the unfortunate fact of the matter is that nothing really gets close to matching the United States for science funding - the rest of the world doesn’t have the capacity to just freely absorb what we’re losing here

a lot of folks will leave the profession entirely
I wouldnt be surprised if the scientists leave america completely to go to Europe.
