This is reminscent of the East Roman (Christian)/Persian (Zorastrian) wars of the 7th century, which were ultimately won by Islam.
I mean, in fairness, China at this moment is doing their all to fuck themselves up too, shortly after Russia began throwing most of its young men into the meat grinder for no real gain.
