"Explain how that happens" is a legitimate request! And critique!

I am happy to explain all sorts of ways LLMs could hurt humanity, but all of those explanation involve careless people doing careless things. Not rogue software.

I do not like this moment in time where nobody cares how things work.

As the opposite of a computer toucher, I sometimes worry that I'm not keeping up with the development of things.

Luckily, I'm smart enough to realize that if the "most dangerous" LLMs need warehouses full of GPUs to function, they can't just "break out" and start running on random PCs.

"my LLM is so powerful it's dangerous and risks breaking containment!"

"ok let's destroy it"

"oh, haha, no. no."

"let's intensively regulate your company then"

"oh, no. no. look can you just put it in the newspaper that it's powerful"

subsidize demand for car dealership owners, who will pass that surplus on to GOP campaigns... brilliant
More than 10 million Americans take out a used car loan every year, with an average rate of an insane 11.4%.

We lower those rates by 4 points with our FHA for Car Loans proposal, saving the typical borrower $6,000 over the life of their loan.

Think about it this way: what if your tax dollars were used to buy sophisticated surveillance equipment and guns, and then the cops never killed your dog? Wouldn’t you feel ripped off?

This isn't true, at least not yet. Most generative AI leaves very distinct digital signatures that aren't so hard to spot. That might not be true forever, of course, and things are changing fast ... but I strongly suspect we could tell the difference with relatively early generation image.
In the age of AI, photos are no longer evidence. Beshear needs to be able to speak to him in person or do what dear Mitch would do in these circumstances.

Don’t think this is the public statement the US is asking for….

The orgniaziational disrespect of tacit knowledge as a standard practice in business culture, long pre-dating AI, is one manifestation of the social dynamics that would eventually fold into the post-information society.
My LinkedIn is full of posts by former Microsoft colleagues who accepted the voluntary retirement offer. I counted at least 9 posts from people I worked with in the past.

For some reason, it felt even sadder than layoff posts. It was hard to put into words until this post from a now ex-Microsoftie.

this is what happens when you're "skeptical of woo" in a way where you don't actually know what woo is and how it sustains itself in the world, making your skepticism toothless: a skepticism consisting not of robust analysis of difficult-to-integrate experiences, but of simply not having had any yet

now people only care about which proprietary (stolen) training set is used
