Investigator/writer researching rescues and altruism. Former newspaper reporter in PA & OH. Poll worker. Open-records and voting-rights advocate.
Excerpt: "What men used to say with burner accounts and fake names, they now proudly say under their own names and faces. Blatant misogyny and the dehumanization of women are things we see every day online, which means that our sons, and especially our daughters, are seeing it too."
Misogyny and the degradation of women are flowing non-stop from social media, and it feels impossible to stem the tide.

This lane is wiiide open. This is, basically, what I wanted to do coming out of j-school when I was burnt out from covering games. The pro teams are giant corporations. Many of the stadiums/arenas have public financing. Gambling has its tentacles everywhere. We need more than highlights & jock talk.
NEW: Sports reporting is shrinking. But at ProPublica, we’re diving in.

We won’t cover the games, but we’ll be keeping score — of which powerful people are winning, of who’s being hurt and of which systems can be held accountable.
Why ProPublica Is Leaning Into Sports Investigations
Sports is a wealthy, powerful industry. We’ll cover the system instead of the games. We’ll ask who’s responsible for some of its biggest problems and who’s preventing them from being fixed.

I have a lot of Ross stories. Here's one of them:

KDKA-TV's newsroom is in Downtown Pittsburgh, on a plaza with a little park. A few years back, several of us were watching through the windows as a gentleman exhibited some concerning drug-induced behavior, until the point when he was slumped over

I was disappointed enough with Fever's "The Jury Experience," which accentuated emotion over evidence and reason.

This sounds like complete and gratuitous garbage.
Another entry in the "what is wromg with people?" ledger.

I was a reporter at the Butler (PA) Eagle, a p.m. paper about 2 hours from Shanksville. We had no TV in the newsroom. I was following the AP updates, then ran to get reax from community college students as I was watching the footage for the first time and catching up on what the hell was happening.
It's hard to explain to many people how difficult it was to get information then. There was basically no Google. I was a researcher at ABC news and we just ... got on the phones. To the NYPD, to the FDNY, the medical examiner, different hospitals. Calling and calling for updates.

The behind-the-back dribble to her left hand and how she also manages to step back behind the arc.

Just totally awesome.
Lol my buddy just sent me another angle and it's somehow even more ridiculous

Legality, ethics & optics aside, a party controlling the White House & two chambers could pass it now, aim for sending the $ out in mid- to late-October & say "Look what we've done for you."

Instead, it's "Do something for us after we've wrecked the economy and we promise we'll actually do this."

I want to rep hockey during my walk as my kid has soccer practice, but I don't want to yuck up my Pens gear with sweat.

So, this is the choice tonight.

In the '22 campaign, Oz had a gross "basement tracker" claiming Fetterman, a stroke survivor, was ducking the public.

Fetterman is living down to the criticism.

He's shown no desire to serve, only a thirst for TV hits.

True crime has really just broken people’s brains. Millions of people perpetually worried that they’re at acute risk of vanishingly rare crimes, convinced we should curtail civil liberties as a result. A generation who thinks of accusing strangers of heinous crimes as simple entertainment

I like how the answer to the question of "How do you defend this?" is about security and not pointless luxury in a world where you could make a meaningful difference now for others with all of this money.
This is where the 1% will go to restart civilization after a nuclear attack.

But it for me thinking: what if the uber wealthy built these bunkers for more people — and not for nuclear attacks but for the climate crisis that will get us all — instead of trying to leave the planet?

Yesterday KDKA-TV reported on a study Penn State researchers are running with Aliquippa's HS football team, using high-tech mouthguards to track how often these kids take hits to the head.

Pilot results last season: 160+ times.

Well, I understand why they weren't part of the catalog. The lyrics definitely needed some work, but "Let's Take Off Our Clothes" had/has a chance to be a fun ditty.
