Anchorage Police Dept lowest use-of-force year on record: still 3x Portland's rate. Still 2.5x Seattle's. In a city with lower crime than both.

Alaska Native people are 7% of Anchorage's population. They're 45% of everyone APD put hands on.

The audit dropped. Read it. www.adn.com/alaska-news/...
City releases sweeping outside audit of use of force by Anchorage police
The audit, which covered a 4 1/2-year period, found the department’s tally of use-of-force incidents was higher than Seattle, Portland or New Orleans.

This is great research which brings together histories of sex work and trans histories in England. The article notes that trans women who sold sex were targeted using laws on homosexuality, furthering our understanding of the ways medical and legal models were used to construct sex.

The transphobe influencers are out in the pathetic level that constitutes full force out front of Target Center, pimping transphobe t-shirts and filming everyone in the hopes someone will lose their temper. There’s a wannabe Charlie Kirk demanding people debate him.

Yep. The fascist project requires society-wide brainrot. And that means conditioning people to ask MechaHitler to tell them what to think.
They're screaming the quiet part out loud. A Trump regime scheme to shift a whopping $200 billion into AI projects and away from traditional university research isn't just because it wants smarter computers

American fascism also requires dumber people

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was murdered by ICE.

His three sons called him “El mundo entero” — the whole world. They watched as their whole world died in a video posted on Facebook.

Lorenzo was our neighbor and fellow Texan. He deserves justice.

As far as "books for kids" go I do sometimes wonder if the existence of a YA shelf robs young folks of the joys of early unsupervised exposure to the ranting of depraved communists and libertarian sex-weirdos in the SFF section, an important inoculation when it doesn't destroy 3-10 years of yr life

Unpopular view but I think a lot of problems in unis could be helped by capping the maximum wage at 2.5 x full time entry lecturer pay (as lecturers do most of the core university work) which might increase lecturer pay as a side benefit to cutting a lot of nonsense.

If you're serious about all of that, Graham should spend less time calling a victim a liar and more time making amends with his accuser and with communities of women who have been (and continue to be) harmed by sexual assault. Make reparations instead of perpetuating harm.

I’ve loved Walden’s previous work but this is unacceptable. It’s plagiarism, veering into fraud.

Just because historians tell stories about real things that happened doesn’t mean you get to take those stories with essentially no credit to the person who did the hard work of piecing them together.

Im so exhausted by this pattern.
Historians spend years in the archives to write detailed accounts of the past.
Only for journalists, doctors, podcasters, and now cartoonists, to swoop in and get paid a lot of money to trot out the same work, "uncovering hidden histories" that are not at all hidden.
