We all are prone to use our own toolsets to explain the world. For me, that means comparing the Fall of the US Republic to the deatruction of the Roman Republic, both caused by a small class of people gotten uncontrollably rich (by tech now, by foreign wars then) and the influence that money bought.

Niger slides deeper into a mess.
This coup is a clear outlier - the putchists came prepared and organization of this revolt is simply uncomparable to half-assed and de facto idiotic attempts of late in the region. Rumors are of part of special forces taking part, key roads being cut off. It continues.
It's not over at all - some part of the army clearly is behind the initial plotters and there is a bidding war ongoing with officers trying to convince the rest. Seems like airport will be the key. The Italians will surely stay put, what will the Russians do is the questions.
