Saw a clip of Micheál Martin responding to Holly Cairns today, where she raised a moral issue, and says "you don't have a monopoly on empathy", which is a line I've seen him use about 800 times now.

Also it's nuts how the way he responds to women isn't discussed more.

This is wild. 93% of the renewable electricity generation added to the Irish grid over that last decade now powers data centers, rather than reducing fossil fuel use. Data centers have pretty much annihilated the health and climate benefits those renewables could have provided.
What is even more striking is that data centre demand has matched 93% of the growth in renewable electricity generation (wind + solar + hydro) over the past decade. If we measure since 2020, data centre demand has grown nearly 3-times faster than renewable electricity growth.

The West must act to save Dr Hussam Abu Safiya from being killed by Israel
Dr Abu Safiya must be immediately released. So too should all Palestinian detainees, including the 82 other healthcare workers still in Israeli prisons

Everybody in the "climate space" (which means everyone on earth...) needs to understand these mind-blowing figures.

Google's "total electricity consumption jumped from 31 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2024 to 43 TWh in 2025."

In ONE year.

The AI corporate arms race is eating the world.
NEW BLOG FOR YOU

Google's energy consumption numbers in their new climate report are mind-blowing. 2 years ago they flipped from linear to exponential growth, and their climate impact is blowing out, too.

A WILD testament to the obscene bloat and waste of GenAI:

“Restoration without pollution control is not a policy, it’s a gesture, and an incoherent one at that. It spends public money cleaning up what private and public polluters are permitted to dirty, in a publicly-funded loop without end.”

By me for @irishtimes.com

Ireland punishes tax evaders. Pollution should be just as risky
Nature absorbs the impact of polluters because the political will isn’t there to make the consequences serious enough to stop them

We the people paid for the Cork Harbour limited cleanup.

The Irish Steel/Ispat scandal is a case study, or should be.

Cork enviro groups saw it coming and were were calling for action from the Council and others for decades, only to be told it was all grand.

It wasn't grand. Not for us anyway.

@micheal-martin.bsky.social so FF already knew this in 2017. And the ensuing obfuscation about legality of the OTB had its answer before it was started. Are you going to address this?

Elon Musk knows that as he and other billionaires continue to accumulate more and more of the total wealth of humanity, there are bound to be riots.

That's why he is using his resources to ensure that anger is directed at the most vulnerable ones, not at the ones who are hoarding wealth and power.
Fascists in Belfast set fire to buildings with people inside them. People of colour left work early to stay indoors.

This is being actively encouraged by the world’s richest man whose openly pro-white nationalist platform X is still used by the UK government

It’s a pretty weird week when a guy who wants to be a trillionaire is simultaneously getting headlines for the economy-shattering IPO expected Friday and the racist pogroms he is accused of stoking — but these stories are viewed as separate and in no way connected or prescient of the future.

This may seem obvious, but has anyone considered that subjecting immigrants, perhaps refugees, who have trauma, to the stress and elevation of sustained racist attacks and hostility is far more likely to trigger violence than proving them with an accepting community?

Or is that exactly the intent?
