Once we abolish the royal family, at least we'll be spared the royal soap opera leading the news bulletins instead of the big stories that really matter. They are an expensive nonsense we can well do without.

The Government must honour its manifesto commitment to hold a public consultation on the future of the House of Lords. We're asking peers to support a Bill that would kickstart that process. Please sign the letter.

Anyone know why a newspaper owned by the Fourth Lord Rothermere, who inherited a fortune from the Third Lord Rothermere, who inherited his money from the Second Lord Rothermere, who inherited it from the First Lord Rothermere, is so strongly opposed to inheritance tax?

AI advocates say we have no right to stop innovation in the free market.

Hogwash.

We don’t allow corporations to come up with new nuclear weapons or varieties of cocaine or biological pathogens. We protect the public from certain kinds of innovation.

We need guardrails on AI before it’s too late.

For me, it comes down to this: when compounding crises threaten our water supply, do we want corporations and billionaires in control of it?

Interesting: a précis of why the research that fuelled austerity, denigrated Gordon Brown, won the Tories 14 years of power, and kindled the rise of UKIP/Reform was wrong. John Maynard Keynes was right all along.

England's water companies have nearly 1,200 criminal convictions.

Fines announced, quietly deferred/waived.

No exec prosecuted.

Regulator can ban exec bonuses.

Companies reclassify exec bonuses as “retention payments” and “signing-on fees”. No action taken

No end to abuses. Nationalise water.
The case for nationalisation of water companies
England’s privatised water companies are leaders of predatory practices. In 1989, the industry was privatised for £7.6bn and had no debts. It joined Chile and a few US states&...

At the 100 lowest-paying major corporations — including Walmart, DoorDash, and Amazon — CEO pay averaged $17.5M in 2025.

Median worker pay was just $36,571, a ratio of 614 to 1.

Those same 100 companies spent $108.6B on stock buybacks last year.

How can anyone defend this?

A former director of BBC News speaks:
BBC’s coverage of Reform’s welfare plans is frankly bizarre. Headlines in Ten, leading on some radio networks. Reform are not even the official opposition and the plans have less credibility than Count Binface. Will BBC News do the same for Lib Dem and Greens policy two years out from an election?
