Terrible air quality as huge swathes of Europe are (again) hit by extreme heat. Climate change and poor air quality go together.

Breathing is not an option: but dumping toxic gases in our atmosphere is.

We can do better. We must.

As of August 5th, global sea-surface temperatures just set a new preliminary record high of 21.20°C. This breaks the previous record high of 21.17°C set on April 24, 2024.

And yes, I had to extend the y-axis to plot this.

For example: seals swimming *into* turbine towers to, apparently, hunt fish - and scour protection at the base of turbines used by sea creatures as a dwelling place.

There have always been wildfires. But not like these.

Let's do some Canadian pipeline-wildfire math.

The Canadian Energy Center says growing oil exports by 1.5M barrels/day **could** boost GDP by ~31B annually.

Meanwhile, wildfire smoke health costs alone - just the health costs, nothing else - averaged 23B/year, past tense. And they're growing fast.

I wonder, if you polled people, how much extra they would pay each year to have their city *not* be covered in thick, choking wildfire smoke for days at a time. I wonder if that might give you more insight into "willingness to pay" vis a vis climate change than asking in the abstract.
