Found this incredible project at the Green Party conference: Stitch their Names

Hundreds of women stitching the names of the tens of thousands of Palestinians murdered by Israel.

Red are women, Black are men, Green are kids.

You let someone in when you are speaking to someone who doesn't have English as a first language. (Annoying habit of an otherwise delightful colleague.)
#speirghorm

Do you 'let' someone in, or do you 'leave' someone in? Which? and where in Ireland are you from?

But they're using renewables! a) they're not, they're all quietly pivoting to dedicated natural gas plants, built by their oil buddies, b) renewables should be used to power useful shit c) this makes it so that renewables don't displace fossil fuels, they just add to supply for increasing demand

We gotta start referring to data centers by both their mother and father's last names, Spain style. The Microsoft-Chevron data center, the Meta-ExxonMobil data center, and so forth. Absolutely no reason just the tech bros should be taking the heat on this shit

This news is important because all the fucks out there actively attempting to wreck the world want you to think that the work is hopeless and just mitigating the worst case scenario.

It's not. Fucking keep going.
We now have rigorous pooled data showing that even without active restoration efforts, cleared rainforest can rebound to 75% of their former species composition and 90% of species diversity within just thirty years. #goodnews
Rainforest biodiversity rebounds within a single generation | The Optimist Daily
A major Ecuador study finds cleared rainforests can recover 90 percent of their species diversity in just 30 years, as long as humans leave the land alone.

The €1bn spent on fossil fuel sinces April would have put 8kw battery & solar on 100,000 homes buying them energy freedom for 20+ years.

The €1bn+ that will be spent over the next few months would bring that to 250,000 homes.

What we lack is will and vision

Out for a run yesterday. Saw a guy in a car on his phone at a junction. He was still on it as he turned into the main road. His window was down so I called out "Put your phone away!" Got a thumbs up. Success?

6 months of the year I have my retinas burned out of my head. I also find more and more people just driving along with their full beams on constant. Such is their ignorance, they don't switch them down when they get flashed.

I still think there is not a good awareness out there of just how much the AI industry plans to run off fossil fuels. This is a *conservative* estimate that excludes many planned projects.

These are weak plans and they can be stopped.

by the way you will hear talk of public transport needing to be ‘sustainable’ or ‘viable’. this is free-market neoliberalism speaking. public transport should be properly funded and to not do so at a time when we have billions in surpluses is a deliberate ideological choice

So the guy was trying to pay attention to the meeting, the summary of the meeting and the reply suggestions all at the same time. Not surprised he got flustered and shared the wrong screen.
I was on a group Zoom call where one of the participants was sharing his screen. He accidentally shared the one where Gemini is ingesting our call, summarizing it in realtime, and offering reply suggestions. I didn’t even know that was a thing!

So even when talking to a human, it might be a bot.
I'm texting UPS about a lost package, asked for a human agent and not a bot, was assured I'd get an actual person, and then this popped up

A County Sligo #painting now. "Benbulben I" is, as you might guess, the first time I painted the iconic Irish mountain. It's featured in a few more of my paintings since, but I suspect I'm not finished with this corner of the world yet.

A reminder, again, that Ireland has *chosen* not to take regulatory action against this abuse factory, whose office sits in Fenian Street in Dublin.

I think this failure to act in the face of clear knowledge is an unforgivable act.

The 5 Simpsons lines I've uttered most off the top of my head

1. Willie hears ya. Willie doesn't care.
2. Do *I* know what rhetorical means?!
3. Like a little Rory Calhoon
4. See you in the car, Millhouse (with an eyebrow wiggle)
5. Ahhh. The hammock district
The 5 Simpsons lines I've uttered most off the top of my head

1. You're a dull boy, Billy
2. I don't know... coastguard?
3. Hey! He's still got it!
4. A little from column A, a little from column B
5. ...the red thing's connected to my wristwatch
The 5 Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most off the top of my head

1. No! Not in my mouth! … is what that kid would say.
2. Everything’s coming up Milhouse!
3. The goggles! They do nothing!
4. [whisper] I think he’s talking to you
5. AND I SAID you fly boys crack me up!

I don't have to create a profile and sign in to read my book. I don't need to remember a password. My book doesn't send me notifications. If someone next to me is reading a book and they put it down, I can pick it up and read it too without being in their account.
Increasingly convinced that the enduring popularity of books is that they're the one medium left that you buy and then own forever; can loan out, pass on, or sell; and which never become obsolete.
