Q: How do you define socialism personally?

JD VANCE: I think in reality what it actually means in the American context is you want to replace American workers with foreigners workers, and you want boys to play in girls' sports

I don't get why Americans think they have a right to yell at Palestinian protestors for doing things the "wrong way," especially when it is clearly because they want to protect a politician.

How is that any different from the blue MAGA types who wax about trans people "hurting their own cause?"
Of course, Twitter is full of both DSA liberals who claim to support Palestine and conservatives who wild happily see it glassed both laughing at and insulting the protestors.

It's a familiar sight to anyone who's read a history book: the social democrats are siding with fascists over Palestinians.

This is just kinda like, basic stuff, but the minute you guys like a guy you throw out all ideological commitments of any notion of politics as struggle and dialectics; as we say, you only care about the guy with the D winning and not really what they do after that.

You probably think this is a touch of hyperbole. If you do, that just tells me not only are you not paying attention, you are actively ignoring all the trans people this has happened to.

This is life in the UK as a trans person in 2026.
Now it's gone way beyond that - if I use a female toilet in the workplace I risk being drawn into a public facing employment tribunal, where I'll be hounded by the press have people on the BBC payroll call me a rapist, and have a billionaire lawsuit funded against me that I will lose

Every GOP lawmaker believes this, by the way. It's just that most aren't dumb enough to say it where it could get leaked in an election year.
Ken Paxton told Washington lobbyists he would support cuts to federal benefits according to leaked audio.

"Making some reasonable cuts to mandatory spending — you’re gonna have to do it. Or there is no solution. That’s just the reality. We have to suck it up."

I’d also add, it’s not even strictly true, given trans children and young adults increasingly struggle to get care in even blue states
"Trans people only get rights if they live in safe blue congressional districts" is an openly segregationist stance and I'm sick of anyone pretending otherwise.

Yeah.
Scholastic sent me a whole box of paperback copies of Sorcerer’s Stone that I sure didn't order.

When I asked why, my rep told me they're sending complimentary giveaway copies to random schools that do Book Fair.

Also, the most consequential, astonishing revelation 2016-26 is that the centre-left and the centre-right are largely the same thing; they’re all fully onboard with the manifesto of the National Front in the 70s regarding migration and racism, and they’re all roaring authoritarian wackos re: protest
This is, of course, simply a rhetorical play act. Suppose that people do "condemn" all these people? Well, you didn't do it enough. Did you contextualise anything? Stop that. Be more unequivocal. Now hop on one leg. I found someone not condemning them - do you condemn them too?

It's not just Andrews: 45 of the SC legislature's 47 Dems have an anti-trans voting record.

- 11 voted for a sports ban (9 abstained)
- 19 voted for a bathroom ban (6 abs.)
- 30 voted for a prison GAC ban (14 abs.)
- 3 voted for a youth GAC ban (6 abs.)

South Carolina Dems have ALL abandoned us.
Looks like the Democratic candidate for US Senate in South Carolina, Annie Andrews, is pro-sports bans and pro-surgery bans for youth, which include top surgery and which have even been interpreted to include blocker and hormone implants.

She's the latest anti-trans dem.
It's incredible how her total capitulation on trans rights didn't stop this

Yeah the “banana republic” and “retribution” being the watchwords here show they’re clearly planning to keep pushing their fight against the left post-midterms as a struggle to contain dangerous state socialism from poor innocent institutions who worked with and paid Trump.
One, “weaponizing the federal government” is a right-wing frame that no clear-minded Dem should be using in the pursuit of justice, and two, affordability in a state that is not applying its laws and prosecuting criminality is essentially meaningless.
“Our focus should be solving problems that we’re seeing happening,” she said, pointing to cost-of-living issues around health care, housing and energy. “That’s where our focus should be — not weaponizing the federal government.”
