As a non technical person, I’ve been intrigued by this and trying to understand what it is.

I believe it’s a chart making tool with a set of instructions underlying an AI to produces good charts that you can verify. Right?
My enthusiasm for charts as a craft (and frustration with digital chart slop) motivated how I shaped dbt Charts visual system.

I really didn't want to add to the AI hype. But there's something the reporting is missing. That scary number? The ">10% chance we'll all perish" number? It's nonsense. It's just a bullshit hunch with a percentage sign.

Stop trusting the extinction math
The AI industry's favourite 'statistic' isn't backed by data. And it distracts from what's really going on.

For the past 9 months I’ve been obsessed with seafarers #data. I sailed aboard a cargo ship, tracked vessels from beaches, listened to the people behind an industry we rarely see.

We are trying a big experiment this year for @ieeevis.org where we will have paper discussions hosted on @atproto.com. So look out for more activity in November.

Thanks to @ieeevis.org and anyone else who nudges the dataviz community towards Bluesky. It works!
Hiya! Finally motivated to join thanks to @ieeevis.org nudge when registering for IEEE VIS in Boston. Thanks for curating the visualization starter pack to onboard me into something interesting right away.

A tool to extract colour codes from an image.
After testing 100s of imgs comparing tiny and big changes to the algo: I am now confident to present to you: The new okpalette.color.pizza. Powerful as before, ~40% faster, better at detecting good presets and much better at finding rare colors!

Test it with your pics and let me know what you think

Logged in to Bluesky today and found I have lots of new followers via the Data visualization community starter pack by @chezvoila.com 😍 Check it out!

I'm a creative information designer / data artist with a fondness for nerdy qualitative data. Here's an introduction thread I wrote some time ago:
🧵 1/ Since I changed my first name formally, I thought I'd do a re-introduction 👋🏻 My previous name was Trud Antzée. I'm a classical pianist and piano teacher, but embarked on a career pivot after falling in love with web programming, CSS art, and data visualisation.

Really interesting chart that frames the global food chain discussion. 📊

- Double encoding (position and colour) helps.
- Normalization across studies is impressive (how?).
- Wondering what date of studies would show.
- Maybe "Overall effect" should be more visible?

One of the most common questions we’re asked about food systems is whether organic farming is better for the environment than conventional methods.

Today on Cabinet of Infographic Curiosities we present a long-forgotten graphic method: the Haeckel-inspired organic diagrams created by the Russian-German sociologist Paul von Lilienfeld to visualize social complexity. Read the full story here: attilabatorfy.substack.com/p/a-graphic-...

The UN IPCC is looking for an entry-level designer to create charts and infographics.

Interesting how they call it "graphic designer" but expect dataviz. 📊

I've been checking the source of quotes for my forthcoming book, and the performance of Gemini is extraordinary. I paste the quote into Google, and Gemini will barge in with the wrong answer over and over again. It's not an occasional thing - it's reliably wrong. Very odd.
Twice in the last week I've pasted a quotation into Google to check the source, and Gemini has barged in with the wrong answer. CS Lewis quote from The Seeing Eye (1967) was placed in The Screwtape Letters (1942). Alfred Loftus quote (1857) attributed to Austen Layard (1849). Gemini 0/2.

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

It should be an event for the data visualization community that this video from 2013 that got 26 million views has just been updated. 📊

It has entered the mainstream in the way that very few dataviz have.

This is a real photo from 1913. It hasn’t been colorized. It was made using a technique called the Autochrome Lumière which captured true color using microscopic dyed starch grains as color filters, decades before color film existed. Pretty incredible, no? More below 👇

Hey #Datavis / #Dataviz peeps - Have you ever seen any dashboards presenting stock monitoring data? I just drove past a herd the other day that had monitor collars attached, and I thought "I wonder how this data is being presented in regards to animal health?"

Can you amplify?

I've just done the largest update to the #dataviz starter pack, with 30 accounts (20%) replaced. It means it will generate more content now. Might be worth re-clicking.

Sadly, gender imbalance got worse. I saved 5 spots for women-run accounts. Send suggestions, including yourself! Replies or DMs.

I'll update the starter pack.

I'm looking for accounts that are posting dataviz regularly. It is not a who's who, it is not meant to bring followers, it doesn't surface rare posters. Its purpose is to bring dataviz content to its subscribers.

Suggestions?
Just learned we’re on @chezvoila.com’s starter pack. Didn’t really know what starter packs are. Neat! Thank you! Good list! go.bsky.app/R3nSyyy
