The US Web Design System is load-bearing infrastructure for thousands of government websites. It makes it easy for small teams with no resources (i.e. most .gov teams) to make usable, accessible websites that work for everyone.

Today, it's as close as it's ever been to being replaced with AI slop.

Beyond the #dataviz feed, are there people you follow on Bluesky who are posting about the field regularly? Let Francis know by replying to his thread.
I'll update the starter pack.

I'm looking for accounts that are posting dataviz regularly. It is not a who's who, it is not meant to bring followers, it doesn't surface rare posters. Its purpose is to bring dataviz content to its subscribers.

Suggestions?
Just learned we’re on @chezvoila.com’s starter pack. Didn’t really know what starter packs are. Neat! Thank you! Good list! go.bsky.app/R3nSyyy

⚡ 68 lightning flashes PER MINUTE.

That’s what we measured at the peak of Thursday night’s DC storm — more than 1 per second.

Add 60-70 mph winds and blinding rain.

We explain why it got so intense — and whether it was a derecho: www.capitalweather.com/how-thursday...
How Thursday night’s DC storms became so violent — and produced nonstop lightning
Fierce storms blasted DC with damaging winds, torrential rain and extraordinary lightning, fueled by extreme atmospheric instability.

On LinkedIn, @daniellealberti.bsky.social just announced that Axios disbanded its data visualization team yesterday. @visuals.axios.com 📊

She is now looking for a new job. A leader in our field.

@sarawise.bsky.social, the long-time deputy editor of the #dataviz team, was also impacted. Sara became a mentor to many of us who joined from non-traditional journalism bgs. She's got a sharp eye for editing & always made sure we kept our reader in mind when we were making more experimental charts.

Some sad news: Axios has eliminated their #dataviz team, which means I have a few former colleagues who are going to be looking for work.

@daniellealberti.bsky.social was one of the best managers I’ve ever had and her eye for hiring the right people to round out a team is second to none.

Yesterday I learned that Axios was eliminating the data visualization team I’ve built and led for nearly seven years. So, for the first time in a long time, I’m looking for what's next. I’m so proud...

Professor Tangrowth would be absolutely stoked. So long as anyone besides Mewtwo finds me first, I’ll be in great shape.
You're offered $250,000,000 but to claim it you must enter the last video game you've played and stay there for a full year.

How are y'all faring in this deal?

Annnd it was made with an AI prompting tool. Still an interesting concept for a project but stolen art is still stolen even if it's used for a good idea.

New story from @pudding.cool is out, featuring some unique #dataviz forms I immediately added to my inspo bookmarks. The sankey + vocab list combo was especially good
New project! Two influential word lists made by language researchers define an "essential English vocabulary" for learners: one from 1953 and another from 2023. In this essay, Jasmine Nackash examines the differences between them and what that says about us.

DC still ranks as the world's third most polluted city Saturday morning.

Wildfire smoke down but not out. Still Code Red levels lingering although there should be gradual improvement this afternoon, w/ Code Orange expected.

Late day storms should help disperse smoke.

This is really promising.

If you've ever looked for a map online that you could tweak, @willchase.bsky.social is building the vector map creator of your dreams (beta mode). 📊 🗺️

For me at least (a non-expert at GIS who needs quick maps), this fills an important gap.

@erindataviz.bsky.social is back on her #dataviz names streak 👀 TIL I'm ~30 years younger than the average Jacqueline.
Coming out of my cave to share a new blog post: erdavis.com/2026/05/29/w...

Still banging on about names. This time, I found the oldest name (as determined by average age of living people with that name) is... Myrtle!

Included is a li'l interactive to look at your own name ☺️

We accidentally Pavlov’d our dog to alerting us to when the Mister Softee truck comes through our neighborhood. She got a pup cup one time and it changed her brain chemistry forever. It’s incredible to watch in real time.
This is Edward. He was given 6 months to live after being found as a stray. His family was determined to give him the best few months possible, so they introduced him to the ice cream truck. That was 27 months ago. 14/10 #SeniorPupSaturday (IG: magnificent_foster_dogs)
