Belonging to the same group as Beewolves but instead of bees they hunt and paralyse weevils and other beetles to feed their larvae.

Not my usual, but when it’s just sitting right there…

Milky Way, just after dark at Lake Leavitt in the Sierra Nevada. Sure looked close from up there!

And a happy Friday to all who celebrate.

Another lovely Colias clouded yellow species in my summer of them, this Moorland Clouded Yellow was a thoroughly obliging and decent individual, flying past me in Arctic Sweden and, the moment a cloud obscured the sun, dropping down to roost right in front of us. Sometimes a bit of cloud is good...

Blue button jellies float on the waters surface. They’re related to true jellies, but they’ve got a dry top that feels a bit like a fingernail, and is filled with air-trapping chambers to keep the jelly above the waves

This float also means they slide on the water like hockey pucks 🏒

This, too, cannot be undone. It is just wanton death and destruction.
The Trump administration’s actions resulted in the destruction of the largest ancient Cottonwood tree on Indigenous territory in Arizona. This tree, known as the “Grandmother Tree,” was 250 years old.
