Dana's a smart one, and I feel like this is central to understanding what "disagreeing in good faith" vs. "being hopelessly contrarian" actually means. You can disagree with conclusions without invalidating the (real and genuine) premises that lead to them!
I also wish people who disagree with me would engage with my point.

I'm going to extend this a little bit, even if fewer people are likely to see this part: A lot of politics posters would be better served by realizing that it is fine and dandy to feel things in reaction to current events in a way that does not prompt or even require action on your part.
A lot of politics posters are functionally the same as memestock fans - they have devoted their lives to something that they do not actually understand, and they refuse to actually start understanding on pain of death.

You have to understand that there are a lot of people in the trans community who are desperately invested as a matter of clout and not coping with the enormity of what they did to us all in 2024 in making sure I come off as the crazy one here

It's weird that the people who insist that Harry Potter was a series for weird nerds never grapple with the fact that it's a series about a rich jock and his friends, who are the popular kids complete with the one gormless kid the popular crowd still adopted.
it’s extremely good in retrospect that, as a child, I read the utterly horrifying Roald Dahl memoirs about his British boarding school experience before I read Harry Potter: this filled me with an appropriate degree of skepticism
My dad grew up in English boarding schools and I read Roald Dahl's memoir "Boy" as a kid and what I think Americans don't get in these types of critiques is that Hogwarts is a *nice* version of a British boarding school.
