Every time a tanker rotates in or out of the region, or a B-1 sorties from the UK, it costs about $200,000+ in jet fuel.

Obvi much less for fighters, but each F-16 patrolling to shoot down Shaheds costs probably low 5 figures in gas.
Basically, the US arrayed 100 tankers and 100s of strike fighters and even flew B-1s out of the UK in order to hit a very limited selection of targets in coastal Iran, to essentially 0 strategic effect and arguably 0 tactical effect either.

This article about Jared Kushner represents the complete corruption of America. It's no "deep state." We're an open mafia state now.

The only prediction about the AI crisis I feel confident making is that the crisis will involve the one thing that every American crisis involves: oligarchs and politicians attempting to rob the poor, while corporate media depicts that as the only prudent course of action.

The best place to be when It happens would be a music venue mid-concert. A little drunk. A little sweaty. The news rippling through the crowd as people’s phones light up. An abrupt halt to a banger before the announcement is made from the stage. Everybody kissing like it’s V-J Day in Times Square.

It's genuinely fascinating that the US president keeps announcing that he just flat out doesn't know what trade is, he legit doesn't appreciate the concept of exchange and instead views economic activity through the lens of a dragon attempting to maximise its gold hoard to sit upon.
Well, that took longer than I thought, but he hath spoken:

the worst part about this is that a lot of the damage will be permanent

by the time we can turn the research funding back on a lot of folks will have unsurprisingly and not unreasonably decided that they should leave this area of research because it will never be reliable

what a huge waste
NSF has reduced the research budget for all atmospheric, ocean, and earth sciences by ~80%.

80%!

A lot of us will not be conducting new research or training new students for the foreseeable future.

Big news: The family of Tierra Walker, who died after she couldn't get an abortion, is suing a slate of Texas actors in state court, including AG Ken Paxton. They say the state ban is unconstitutional.

This is the first suit of its kind.

Tierra Walker died after she couldn’t get an abortion. Her family is suing Ken Paxton
The case, filed Tuesday, argues that Texas’ near-total abortion ban violates the state and U.S. Constitutions, which “prohibit state actors from killing their citizens.”
