It's not liberating. It's dehumanising and devaluing of the particular nature of certain relationships which should not simply be seen as transactional.

'Patient' at least implies a relationship in which there should be a duty of care.

It's depressing that, in our neoliberal age, we seem to be redefining every relationship in such terms of customers/consumers etc.

Slightly horrified to see the select committee has sought to expunge the word 'patient' from the Mental Health Bill, replacing it with various other terms including 'consumer'.

I understand why people want to challenge things that seem paternalistic, but this seems misguided.

#Fantasy-Faction has its 1st semifinalist for #SPFBO #SPFBOXI City of Stone by K. T. Holder. Epic fantasy has to be compelling to keep me reading past the 20% mark. City of Stone passed the test; I read this in one night and then downloaded and read book 2.

UK publishing generated £7.4 billion in revenue last year.
Compare that to:
Premier League football: £6.6 billion
Home entertainment: £5.6 billion
UK film industry: 2.8 billion

Now tell me again why authors don't deserve fair contracts and better pay.

#SPSFC5 has got it’s 10 semi finalists. Each team will now read 4 of the semis (excluding their own) and the top 5 scoring books will go into the finals to be read by all teams.

As a committee, we've written to every MP in Welly about the Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill, and we encourage you to do the same.

Plenty of organisations like InsideOUT or Qtopia have more info you can use, and letters to Parliament are free qtopia.org.nz/news/qtopia-...

I suspect a lot of potential Labour voters are looking at Hipkins' middle of the road stance and are choosing to not vote for Labour or just not to vote at all

Given the attack on our social structure I don't want appeasement

National MPs, with their six figure salaries, who claim accommodation supplements that are more than some state housing occupants earn in a year, stripping away accomm support for state housing tenants is some next level hypocritical cruelty.
