This meme remains the most insufferably moronic takes. It is exclusively posted by people incapable of understanding politics. Anyone using this earnestly does not have, and will never have, any thought worthy of your engagement.

My dad worked underground at a mine then later an electrician at the mines. He had been on disability pension since his mid-forties from crippling arthritis.
This is why I get pissed off when anyone accuses me of being an elitist when I say young people should go to college if they can. I say that because my dad was a local lineman and contractor who did heavy physical labor for years and has had chronic back pain since his early 30s
I was raised by a nurse with an associates degree and a steel mill electrician. I am not denigrating the value and dignity of blue collar work when I ask how many elite national media staffers are raising future bricklayers themselves.

If nothing else AI is making clear that there are people all around us for whom writing, art, and music are not communion with another mind, but just - wallpaper. Just pleasant things to look at. They think AI is conscious because they have no actual grasp of what it is to encounter another mind.
When you have no concept of how people engage with music

Lookinh forward to @taylorlorenz.bsky.social's inevitable 'why I left the left' book tour.
This is a book about how completely unprincipled attention hounds will always make their way to the right because they know the right will have them. The NYMag piece? I guess that’s a story about how unprincipled attention hounds deserve attention as long as they’re shitting on democrats.
Evan Barker quit the Democratic Party and voted for Trump. Now she’s telling (a few) stories about what she saw in a new book that mixes gossip and condemnations of ‘woke.’ Her old colleagues aren’t happy.

A lot of people said a lot of things about the ineffectiveness of production limitations for generating greenhouse gas reductions and speeding up renewable adoption for the past decade which were clearly false. May "keynesianism means we have to keep building oil and gas infrastructure" finally die
President Trump’s war on Iran, now in its seventh month, has led to a plunge in the consumption of oil and gas around the world as fighting disrupts production and transportation. https://wapo.st/4ycPvNA

I've often had this exact thought. I didn't expect to get to my late 30s and enjoy modern pop music. But I thought that I would find it confronting, confusing, or at the very least weird. Instead it's just... boring.
obviously the main thing here is i am older than the target demo but i would've assumed that would turn me into a pearl clutcher or something yknow? elvis is ruining our nation's children kind of situation. instead i feel like i can't even hear these songs that's how little impression they all leave
i dunno man none of this stuff does anything for me. it's not offensive it just doesn't stick. so many pop songs lately seem to have this idk aural overlay or something that's like the sound of gas pouring into the garage

you can tell taylor knows exactly the kind of audience she’s trying to appeal to and expand with by praising elon musk’s x, going hard on ai boosterism, saying she no longer aligns with the left politically, and doing long-form interviews with bari weiss’ free press
Wow….wild to hear Taylor say she’s glad Elon took over Twitter and that it’s better than ever.

I mean, the unconstrained growth of the far right on there? Musk’s thumb seemingly on the algorithm’s scale during elections? The impact on democracy?

obviously trying to stake out social problems as "addiction" is part of a process of medicalization that's not always helpful but fucking come on taylor, these are products explicitly designed to be compulsive and they haven't been about "chatting with your friends" for years
Can social media be addictive?

@taylorlorenz.bsky.social says no.

“You wanting to communicate and chat with your friends every day is not an addiction,” says Lorenz. “And to frame it that way is incredibly harmful and anti-science.”

Oh look, another 'scandal' that shows that AI does exactly what its boosters claim it does, and that all those trillions in capex will pay off, and that Anthropic really is worth $2tn.
Former OpenAI and Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon, who publicly resigned from Anthropic yesterday with a stark warning about AI safety, was interviewed by Anderson Cooper on his show this evening.
