This is one of my favorite things. In the final dungeon, the chest messages change to notes from the translators talking about how much this game means to them, and encouragements to see it through to the end. Hits me right in the heart and reminds me why we do this work. Machines could never.

I want everyone to stop saying AI is here to stay, AI is inevitable, all that crap. It's only "inevitable" if we all agree it is. This is how consent gets manufactured, and I'll have no part in it. Either I will piss on Claude's grave, or Claude will piss on mine. No compromise, no surrender.

Some movie credits run for over ten minutes, but many manga translators have to beg for clients to even allow their work to be listed on a private portfolio, let alone anywhere that the public can actually see and use, and manga production teams are *significantly* smaller.

I could write volumes about the Orientalism inherent in expecting translated Asian texts to be somehow intrinsically different in vocabulary and metre to native English. They're not foreign and exotic to local readers, why on earth would you want them to be different for you if you want authenticity

when yelling about anime subs, I very specifically make a point to only *ever* do so in terms of the company contracting them and not put the blame on any individual TLs or editors for problems, big or small, that make it through to release

AIMod are a bunch of incompetent charlatans. I remember about a year and a half ago, when we had a zoomed in version of the Hera "cafe" piece in our header, the Anime Herald account got hit as "AI Art" and I had to go through a similar rigmarole to get the label removed. They suuuuuuck.

say what you will about the myriad valid concerns with current LLMs but I personally will never get over the fact that Aaron Swartz was prosecuted to his literal death for downloading JSTOR and then a decade later, they downloaded & ingested the entire world and our IP laws just went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
