I loved seeing Every Brilliant Thing with Tracee Ellis Ross (who couldn't be more perfect for it) in NYC this weekend. Inspired by the show, I started my own list of brilliant things that make life worth living, and want to share one every day (I can remember). My #1 is the same:

1. Ice cream
I finished Bad Ink: How The New York Times Sold Out Transgender Teens by @rikiwilchins.bsky.social YESTERDAY only to wake up today to further evidence of the NYT's ongoing lack of respect for the trans community or regard for the onslaught of abuse their targeted disinformation has created.
You have to wait until the sixth paragraph of this piece before you learn, in the New York Times reporting on the murder of THEIR OWN EMPLOYEE, that the victim was a trans man who had been abused for being trans by the in-laws who murdered him.

Couple Accused of Killing Their Son-in-Law in Bay Area Park (Gift Article)
Jonathan McKinsey, an engineer who worked in the games department for The New York Times, was fatally shot Saturday in a San Francisco suburb. The police have accused his parents-in-law, both 76.

think all straight people who discoursed at great and punishing length about a western mass lesbian bar should have to give equal airtime to this. it’s your own community this time!

These hockey players also participated in gang rape, their names and faces should be everywhere as well.

Listen. I'm as disappointed in Ed Sheeran as anyone. I really thought he was better than this, but can we stop with the preface of not liking his or Macklemore's music? It doesn't make you cooler or more authentic to make sure you announce to everyone that you don't like some popular music. 🙄

New in PN: Retire in peace

"McConnell would never be allowed to drive a car, babysit young children, or file his own taxes. Why, then, should a cognitively incapacitated 82-year-old retain one of the most important positions of power within the national government?"
Retire in peace
McConnell is the latest example of an incapacitated politician refusing to let go.

You can't blame Ed Sheeran for caving in to American stadium owners I suppose. I mean, take these guys in the 60s, they refused to play to racially-segregated audiences in stadiums in the southern states of the USA and who remembers them now?

Facts
When you're constantly just trying to keep the lights on and put food on the table, you don't have the time or energy to fight the system. Keeping people hanging on by a thread isn't a policy failure; it's how they keep us too tired to push back.

I just want to say, the fact that so many Dems are coming out and saying shitty things about trans people in the last two weeks is a case in point of what I have been working so hard to sound the alarm on.

I've been so hard on each individual dem who breaks for years now.

I feared this.

We don’t talk enough about how much of our days have become entangled in determining what’s real. What’s genuine. What’s human or what’s synthetic. What’s worth our time after having already spent it. It’s a grotesque skill we’ve all been forced to master, and a waste of energy none of us can spare.

Folks in NY Metro or general Northeastern US looking for some kitties in need?
Y'all. I know you're tired of my running on about this, and I *want* to give you a break over the weekend, but I CAN'T fail these cats.

They need a HOME. They're affectionate, relaxed and in decent health, and their issues are MINOR and EASILY MANAGEABLE. All we need is to find That Person.
