MERCX: “.. The cost of shipping 2 million barrels of oil jumps another 14.3% today to $18.15 per barrel. That move is already extreme. I think it gets even more extreme from here.”

CBO analysis: The Iran war has cost the U.S. $38 billion as of August 1.

That’s >$246 million per day, on average.

CBO says the war has raised inflation and global energy prices, citing reduced traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and says it’ll raise interest rates on treasuries.

going for lucky loss nine in a row
As the Rockies warm up to play a home game against the San Diego Padres at Coors Field, I predict that the Rockies have a 77.76% chance to lose based on various stats from each team.

That’s just like, my opinion, man.

Diesel doesn't seem very price elastic! The mechanism for diesel consumption going down in the US is ... guys with diesel pickups driving less? Freight mode shift to rail (or air lol)? Less freight overall? Farmers leaving crops to rot in the fields?

I'm generally a Bernie fan but this just quackery.

IMO the progressive opinion should be that:
1. workers and people benefit from the advancement of AI
2. data centers are regulated to be fully renewable and add power/stability to grids
3. etc

the number would be even higher if democrats didnt spend so much time making out their immigration stance as gop lite.
Times/Sienna now finds Americans preferring the Democratic Party on immigration by 7 points. The pundit claim that Americans should acquiesce to ICE secret police murdering Democrats in the street and disappearing people to secret camps because it's what Americans want and will always want was wrong

Republicans at R+2 on Artificial Intelligence but positive on nothing else is objectively funny

This seems well intentioned, but I worry that this just leads to DOTs erasing crosswalks

There's a long history of agencies arguing that crosswalks give people walking a "false sense of security" and removing them, e.g. ggwash.org/view/40788/t...
Traffic engineers still rely on a flawed 1970s study to reject crosswalks
When St. Louis decided not to maintain colorful new crosswalks that residents had painted, the city’s pedestrian coordinator cited federal guidance. A 2011 FHWA memo warns that colorful designs could ...

Democratic officials stop calling for idiotic tax cuts challenge
It’s time to lower the damn diesel.

Diesel just hit the highest price ever recorded in America — more than $6 a gallon –– up from $3.71 last year

Farmers, truckers, shrimpers, small businesses, and families need relief now — not more excuses from Washington. Suspend the diesel tax.
