Canada. Hmm. Sounds Trumpian.

"The federal government has quietly stopped evaluating whether new gas power plants and oilsand facilities will damage Canada's rivers and lakes, air quality and species on the edge of extinction."

Feds quietly exempt oilsands and gas power plants from environmental impact assessments
The change comes as part of a suite of amendments to Canada's impact assessment laws passed by the Carney government early Wednesday morning.

I do think it’s whorephobia that of all the Dolly tributes I’ve seen on TV tonight, not single one of them has mentioned how she starred in a movie called “The Best Little WHOREHOUSE in Texas” where she lovingly and respectfully portrayed a whorehouse madame.

I know it’s hard to watch all these beautiful things be carried away by time and see the wrong things growing in their place. But listen. Listen. We have to be the beautiful things now. It has to be us. It has to be us. Courage.

Y'all, The Vampire Lestat was bad. Really, really bad. Not "the book was better" bad. More like "what the fuck did I just watch?" bad.

The last two episodes were two of the most tedious two hours of media I've ever sat through.

Sam Reid killed it though. (With what he was given to work with.)

Monday is the deadline for public comment! The Heritage Foundation has been mobilizing its members to leave comments in favor of the rule change, so every unique comment matters (don’t use a form letter or copy/paste—similar comments are batched and treated as one).
There's an OMB rule change that would require political oversight of scientific grants, and could pull any that don't "reflect presidential priorities"

Another country has tried this before! It was the USSR and it was called Lysenkoism. By @thsaey.bsky.social

Here’s what happens when you put politicians in charge of science
Proposed federal rules would rely on political appointees to decide how a lot of U.S. science gets done. History shows the consequences of such actions.

For folks asking why bother commenting because the OMB won't care: comments help build cases for the courts by explicitly laying out harms. That's why it's really important to have your comments be as specific as possible.

Also, contact your senators and reps! They actually do care about this.

🧵LORENZO SALGADO ARAUJO

Better organized thread of vigils/protests for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.

•Always check date/time
•Pls lmk about events I haven’t listed

If you were enraged by the executions of Renee Good & Alex Pretti, you should be enraged by the execution of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.
They lied about killing Silverio Villegas González in Sept too. They think, with good reason, that it's easier to get away with summary executions of Mexican men.

Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

Fuck the reflecting pool. This has not gotten nearly enough coverage or generated the proper outrage. People thrown in prison for 30-50 years for the "crime" ofmaking zines and belonging to a book club!!

This is straight-up totalitarian atrocity. Political prisoners thrown in a gulag to rot.

I need y'all to understand that I teach high school and there are teenagers already planning to leave the U.S. to because they will be studying science or medicine. They are SO serious about it - saving money, learning extra languages, and looking to see if there are familial connections abroad.
You may have heard about the OMB rule change that will put politics over federal grants. However bad you think it is? It's probably worse. Thanks to @theverge.com for letting me report this one out.

There is still time to comment.
