One of the many problems with generative AI is that our minds are like sponges: the more artificially generated content we consume on social media, the more we instinctively adapt our thinking and writing to that. It’s like eating tons of junk food. Your inwards won’t look pretty.

Is October the crispiest of months?
October 2, 2026 at 7:49 AM
What if AI is randomly branding human-made content as AI generated content just to gradually erode our trust to the point we don’t care anymore who did what?

I’m kidding.

Am I?
I’m told we got an AI use notification for that last Murderbot post on Insta, the one with the Sanctuary Moon logo. I can assure you we didn’t use AI. #Murderbot

The Invite is a wonderful little gem of a film. Funny and pitiless and thought-inducing.

I delivered my next book after Pan and before the next novel set in Pan’s universe. It’s nonfiction. I won’t say much about it just yet but I will only answer to folks calling me Rupert Giles once it’s published.

I used to like a contrasting negation, every now and again, and now I find it impossible to stomach it. This would be reason enough to go Sarah Connor.

It is perfectly fine not to like Nolan’s Odyssey of course. But if you’re not a writer and you say it’s written abysmally, you sound a little cringeworthy. The craft is great. It might leave you cold, bored, whatever. You might dislike, even hate, the take on the story.

Oh so NOW it’s cool for nerds who’ve read the source material a thousand times to get mad about adaptations?

Nolan’s Odyssey is the GOAT. It modernises characters and events, where lesser filmmakers would have just created modern characters and events and slapped old names on them. It’s a spectacular feat of writing, among other things.

"For most of human history, 'literature'...has been narrated, not written--heard, not read. So fairy tales, folk tales, stories from the oral tradition, are all of them the most vital connection we have with the imaginations of the ordinary men & women whose labor created our world." - Angela Carter
