This is just kidnapping children
Trump's 2018 "zero tolerance" policy was denounced on both sides of the political aisle as inhumane, and a federal court ruled it illegal. Now the Trump administration is separating families again, only this time more quietly, and away from the border.
“You kidnapped my son”
ICE is now separating children from their parents and deeming them “unaccompanied.”

The amount of money the administration is promising in order to buy votes is significantly less than the amount of money it is taking away in programs and services. And it's OUR money!

This piece highlights something that doesn't get talked enough: Progressives should put forward a proposed set of rules for a new congress to facilitate defeating the far right and actually legislate.
The Constitution allows it. South Korea has proven it works. If you want to make impeachment viable—and so much else is pointless if you don't—then it can be done by a simple majority adopting a simple rules change: vote on the verdict by secret ballot.
A Democratic Senate Should Adopt Secret Impeachment Ballots on a Priority Basis
Such a change, requiring no constitutional amendment, would free senators to vote their judgment instead of their fears

As climate scientists, it sucks to be defunded. But it adds insult to injury to be defunded by this moron who has access to the best climate science and data in the world and still says asinine things like this.

Hot take: I don't think social media made people dumber. We've been dumb this whole time.

It's just that you used to have to have a job that people sent their dumb letters to, to notice.

This made "Engaging with fools" an occupational hazard rather than the 24/7 experience it is presently.
No matter how bleak things may seem, just remember that in the 1960s the US Coast Guard received reems of earnest letters begging them to save those poor castaways on Gilligan's Island.

A negative externality is a shifting of costs. As the cost of a transactional communication shrinks to zero for a business they are incentivized to massively scale their funnel and so massively increase the time wasted by 99% of the recipients of a message.

Yes! Even thinking about how you’d manage is good practice for the day you have a seizure or something else happens that keeps you from being able to drive. Having a backup plan to the car is just smart.
Could you go a week without driving? This Week Without Driving, we’re challenging you to leave the car at home and explore the many ways to get around our community.

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of.

What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

This whole thread 10000x yes.

Polarization is not the problem, it’s the symptom. The problem is that one party (guess which) has become radicalized and is willing to undermine democracy to preserve the entrenched power of the white/christian/male/cis/het groups
You have to accurately assess the problem to create proper solutions
