I just realized that coding with AI is a lot like playing Warcraft or other RTS games. Give a command watch it play out. Give another, watch it go again, massively changes the flow of software development, but also the level of addiction.

This feels a bit crazy, I guess new vibe contributors might be bad, but everyone I’m working with is having a massive productivity boost from Claude. It’s hard to imagine that few will be coding without AI assistance in a year or two.
For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors.
AI has made the problem much worse.

Happy to work at a company that’s using AI to burn down the backlog and not as an excuse not to hire.
So, every organization that makes software or manages technology has a backlog of bugs they want to fix, or features that they (or their customers) wish they could implement. It’s often super frustrating to have to deprioritize things you _want_ over things you are _obligated_ to do…

This is a great essay on AI and science, I've been writing software professionally for almost 30 years, and AI has freed me from the nitty gritty that I've gotten tired of. But I've got decades of knowing what I want to do and why I want to do it. What the next generation looks like is up in the air

It’s kind of telling that Linux got AI’s who can write all your code before it got a decent debugger that would let you walk through that code.

Made a suggestion on how to optimize a 3d scene to a jr engineer, came back 30 min later info and informed me that it ran 30x faster and result was 30x smaller, and that he mostly just fed my suggestion to Claude. Guess experience is now just knowing what to feed the AI.
