I’m recruiting Minnesotans for a confidential study about experiences during ICE Operation Metro Surge that includes both surveys and interviews. Please share widely!
I guess, to be fair, there are no pawn shops in my data about small businesses that closed on Jan 23 in protest of ICE Operation Metro Surge and human rights abuses www.genevacole.com/iceout.html
what's crazy about this premise is that local businesses in minneapolis hated the ice raids, made it clear they hated the ice raids, lost a ton of money because of the ice raids, and were generally quite sympathetic to the people telling ice to get the fuck out bsky.app/profile/will...
Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire is quietly shooting a pro-ICE movie that dramatizes the Renee Good killing. We got the script.

You'd expect seasoned organizers to be the quickest to turn broad public support into electoral engagement. But in 2020, it was newer organizers who pushed their supporters toward electoral politics.

The MN Truth Council is still accepting additional people to talk about the experiences they had during Metro Surge. You can be anonymous or named, and this is an important part of making sure what happened is captured in full. Sign up on this site.

FWIW, I'm interviewing people who experienced ICE in MN and it's not surprising to me that they didn't react with voter reg + pol donations. People are disenchanted with mainstream politics, spending spare $ on rent funds + buying groceries for neighbors. Mobilized by injustice a la @hlw.bsky.social
ICE is everywhere.

In 2022, ICE made arrests in 30% of counties.

In 2025, ICE made arrests in 62% of counties.

We ask: Do ICE arrests spark political action?

Theory and prior evidence suggest it should.

We find that ICE activity mostly does not mobilize citizens.

This week, the Supreme Court finally killed off the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

I've spent the past decade studying the VRA and the attacks on it, so I thought I would offer some historical perspective, and where I think we're headed.

This will be a long thread; buckle up.
