One of the most mindblowing things about interning in Congress was finding that the Congressional Research Service exists. Improving it would improve lawmaking.

one of the things that became clear during the DOGE saga is that a lot of anger about "corruption" is aimed at actual gov't employees who, it turns out, have to bring their own coffee machines into the office so that taxpayers aren't funding it, meanwhile consultants get this treatment
We're going to have to have a big re-think about what corruption is, and it's going to make a lot of professional advisors + consultants very uncomfortable. There's a lot of people in my socioeconomic strata who take various perks at public expense for granted. www.sfchronicle.com/california/a...
