Your city might not be as far gone as Birmingham, but no matter where you live, you're likely to find familiar many of the aspects of @sarahchaundler.bsky.social's brilliant and now publicly available short film "City of Cars."

Stop what you're doing and watch this.
City of Cars: shorter version
Please be aware that this film contains scenes which show the impact of road traffic collisions, which some people may find upsetting.

The BBC does genuinely seem to be trying to save money where it can; they scrapped an undercover investigation where Amol Rajan went out clubbing with a view to exposing the easy access to poppers because they didn't want to pay for the Amol night rate

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

Plant-rich diets are the food system's electrification. Petrol cars only see 18-25% of their fuel energy get to the wheels; EVs 87-91%. Heat pumps are 2 or 3 times more efficient. Food has its own combustion engine: a chicken turns about 13% of its feed calories into food, worse than a petrol car.

We actually know, as in we have looked hard and researched this, that was the multiplier for government spending on defense is below 1. There is no War Keynesianism. But it is the only kind of spending that the British establishment will speak of in Keynesian terms.
💸 This enormous waste of public funds is not keeping us safe and is completely failing to prioritise the real security issues that we face, from the climate emergency to the cost-of-living crisis...

HUGE UPDATE: we halted Amazon's panel at Climate Week. We shut it down so hard that every guest and every speaker had to leave the premises. No one was able to return.

Their whole event lasted less time than their warehouse workers' pee break.

At some point we have to stop saying "What is going on at the BBC? What's happening? What on earth? I am so bewildered. This is very baffling" and accept what our eyes are telling us: that there is institutional capture of everyone's favourite maybe-once-but-no-longer liberal news outlet.
Written by an experienced BBC journalist – Daniel Sanford – this reads as a virtual love letter to "Danny Tommo" and his ninja knob heads. What the hell is going on at the BBC? It's coverage of the hard/far routinely uses sanitising language to legitimise their actions.
