I literally said to Portia this morning, there's gonna be a shield law lawsuit soon.

I didn't think it would be TODAY.

Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama have filed a bill of complaint with the U.S. Supreme Court against New York, Massachusetts, and California.

Hold on to your butts.

Bison have returned to Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert. 44 bison were released at Coahuila’s El Santuario reserve late last year, followed by 29 more into Sonora’s Cuenca Los Ojos region in February 2026, where the herd produced 10 calves within months. Yucatán Magazine buff.ly/0SEucl3

Questions for former and/or current department chairs 🪑:

1. Did you manage to stay on top of your research/writing? If so, how??
2. Did you find the experience worthwhile in the long run?
3. What advice would you offer to new chairs?
4. Would you do it again?

I finally got my hands on Caroline Fraser's "Murderland." She repeatedly mentions the I-90 Mercer Island floating bridge w/ reversible lanes. The bridge was an infrastructure nightmare that claimed many lives over decades. This video shows a bit of that disaster:

Just had a version of this conversation with @hpsvanessa.bsky.social. In short, the "future is agrarian" is nice, but has caveats like time, labor, money, knowledge transfer, space/land, predictable weather patterns, able backs/knees, etc.

"don't cite what you haven't read" remains the basic entry level academic responsibility; & if your discpline "doesn't have that as a norm" then sorry, your discipline needs reforming for this new world. Citations are structural parts of trust and knowledge building, not trinkets or optional extras
Academics and technologists are sounding the alarm about a growing crisis in scholarship as we know it: AI-generated citations of nonexistent papers that have infested real journals. Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.
AI Is Inventing Academic Papers That Don't Exist -- And They're Being Cited in Real Journals
