Terrible manners. No sense of how to act in a restaurant.

NEW ARTWORK DROP: The Lalux 71, an extremely tall residential lamppost - over 22 feet high. Lalux had several models of lamppost, with their own motifs, but the 71 seems to use ALL of them. Sadly, you can only find them on one street in Glassell Park nowadays. #art #artsky #ink #stipple #streetlight

NEW ARTWORK DROP: The Glendale Double, from the Llewellyn Iron Works. This is an iconic style of classic 1920s Los Angeles streetlight, besmirched by one very unfortunate design choice - swastikas (which I did not draw, I'm not a monster). #art #artsky #ink #stipple #streetlamp #losangeles

NEW ARTWORK DROP: The Holmby Hills Lantern, a residential streetlamp from Union Metal. Installed on the Westside in the mid-1920s, only a few remain today. BUT you can find one in the wild in the most L.A. place of all - in front of the Playboy Mansion.

An ink stippled drawing of the Holmby Hills Lantern, a residential streetlight on the west side of Los Angeles. It is a long, fluted metal pole, on top of which sits a hanging lantern from an ornate, curlicue armature.

Every now and then, he forgets to project a terrifying, aggressive posture. It doesn't last long, this lapse in judgment... but he knows I saw it. And it makes him so mad.

When the world serves up a shit tsunami - basically, everyday - I find spending time watching the hummingbirds keeps me calm. Took about two weeks of daily work to get this one comfortable enough to hand feed. It's a process.

Like males of all species, the male rufous hummingbird compensates for his internal terror over an uncomfortable situation by trying to protect an aggressive facade.

#birdsky 🪶 a #rufoushummingbird and an #annashummingbird, being remarkably civil today and sharing the perch without fighting. Well, for a few minutes. After the crap this world has thrown at us the last few days, it's good to show down and cleanse the palate for a bit.

NEW ARTWORK DROP: Beloved Los Angeles Eateries Edition.

BOB'S BIG BOY BURBANK

Original work: 0.15mm archival ink pen on Bristol board. 110 hours.

#streamlinemoderne #history #restaurant
A black-and-white ink-stippled drawing of the Bob's Big Boy sign on Riverside Drive in Burbank. The sign is a massive vertical rectangular slab that stands on five pillars. Two-thirds of the way up, a circular design element juts out from the side of the slab; inside is written "Bob's" in large neon-lit letters. On the slab is written "Big Boy original double deck hamburgers". Down at the base of the pillars is a large statue of the mascot "Bob", a large-eyed boy in checkered overalls holding a giant burger on a plate above his head. Off to the left of the image is a sign that reads "Car Hop Service" and "Drive Thru open" with an arrow pointing the way. A close up image of the ink-stippled "Bob's" logo at the top of the sign. Bob's is written in large letters, angled slightly upwards and to the right, inside of a large dark circle that juts out the side of the top of the sign. The circle is ringed by two neon strips, and each letter of "Bob's" is outlined in neon. A close up image of the statue of the mascot Bob. He stands on a short slate pedestal. Bob has a short, squat body with a large head, enormous eyes and a wildly swooped haircut. He's wearing a white T-shirt that says "big boy" and over that he's wearing a red-and-white checkered pair of overalls. He's holding a massive burger on a plate over his head in his right hand, while giving a thumbs-up with his left hand. A close up of the "car hop" sign. Popping out of the top of some hedges, an irregularly-shaped sign reads "Car Hop service" inside of a cirle, and then "Drive Thru Open" along the side of an arrow pointing to the right.

NEW ARTWORK DROP: Beloved Los Angeles Eateries Edition.

PHILIPPE'S THE ORIGINAL FRENCH DIPPED SANDWICHES.

Original artwork. 0.15mm archival ink on Bristol Board. 120 hours.

#art #artwork #ink #inking #stipple #pointillism #losangeles #philippes #philippetheoriginal #architecture #teamphilippe
A black-and-white ink-stippled drawing of Philippe's French Dipped Sandwiches in Los Angeles. The building has a large sign on its roof that reads "Philippe" in a scripted font, and under that reads "the original French Dipped Sandwiches". There's a smaller version of that sign on the side of the building, and a striped awning above the doorway that reads "Philippe" and "1001" which is its street address. A close up image of the stippled sign on top of Philippe's. The sign reads "Philippe" in large painted script, and underneath that it reads "the original French Dipped Sandwiches". The sign sits on two pillars, and there are four guide wires from the top of the sign securing it to the roof. There are also some faint dotted lines that represent the neon lights outlining the letters. A close up view of the ink-stippled sign on the side of Philippe's - it has the same elements as the sign on the roof, but in a more horizontal format. There is also a close up of a portion of the striped awning above the doorway, and some of the signs in the window next to the door.

The neighborhood male Rufous is such a bully to the other hummingbirds and also more skittish around me, so this was a surprise. I'm sure he's furious he has to eat from my hand.

Also, finally figured out the high-speed setting so the wings are less strobey.

New Hummingbird Baby alert! Didn't think it was going to happen this year - didn't actually see any eggs in the nest - but they surprised me.

Mom is hard at work bringing food. Trying to get her to feed from my hand like in years past, but so far, nada.

Sunday Bird Butt.

I am constantly impressed at how sturdy these hummingbird nests are. This one's rock-solid - I think she used bits of a receipt to paper mâché that thing together, and she's stolen every spiderweb in the courtyard to secure it to the tree.

This year's limited-edition Peeps have dropped. Not sweet - very spicy.

The local hummingbirds are good at finding nest sites that are hard to photograph. This is the best I'll get this year.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate. Happy Sunday to everyone.
