My very sincere prediction is that in future years we will see class action lawsuits by students arguing— correctly— that they were defrauded when they paid tuition dollars in an implicit contract that they would be educated 
If I was in charge of an educational institution and learned that a technology fostered “cognitive surrender” in young people, I’d like to think I would do everything in my power to keep it away from the young people who pay my institution to educate them. But I guess I’m just a weirdo.

What’s missing: 1/ Any framing about what higher is or has been that misses the big public investment post-WW2 and then massive disinvestment starting in the 1980s which spirals into rising costs and student debt is disingenuous at best. 5/

They can discontinue after if they want - & during the 2 wks, offer notes if they feel disadvantaged at all. Most continue no-laptops post-2 wks. But no one's spotlighted before or after for using a computer.
Get the laptops out of the classroom!! No internet!!! Print readings for the students! Use real books, pens, & paper!

I’m a Dartmouth professor. Pres. Beilock implies in this piece that she speaks for us as a college. She does not. I don’t permit AI in my classroom. Not because it stole my work; because as I wrote in @chronicle.com, most of my students hate it—and feel betrayed by the college—even more than I do.
