Working in education I think the thing many people miss is how much impact this has on schools. Not only the trauma and lost days but now lost funding so lost teachers. Fewer kids means fewer electives and tough choices about how to keep buildings open. #AbolishICE #Minnesota

Fun Minnesota connection. She taught at UMN during WWII. Also Frank Oppenheimer was banned from physics also worked at UMN with Phyllis Freier who was the first female physics professor and was nominated for a nobel prize.
Speaking of women in physics: Dr. Melba Phillips. Phillips earned her PhD on nuclear physics with Oppenheimer in 1933 & became a professor at Brooklyn College in 1938. A unionist, in 1952 she was fired after taking the 5th at a McCarthyist committee. She didn‘t get a faculty job again until 1962. 🧪⚛️

The city spent money a few years ago to paint this sign. They didn't spend money to inspect the apartments. Residents have been living in mold infested apartments without heat or air conditioning. The HOA foreclosed on black residents. All government failed here. #HeritagePark #Minneapolis #Racism

Walking into new year faculty meetings today. This is my anthem this year. We will fight to educate students despite AI, the dismantling of our federal government and assaults on our rights. It is going to be a long year though.
As a Minnesotan I really want Target to succeed but wow! How nobody says maybe a blatantly racist costume isn't a good idea makes me seriously question if they have learned anything about why they keep getting boycotted.
Target never would have made the disastrous decision to market a Halloween costume that looks like it’s straight out of the Jim Crow era if Black folks had a seat at the table.
