Minneapolis, the Hero City
In Minneapolis, which Flanagan's campaign notes was the "heart of Operation Metro Surge," early voter turnout last week hit 101% of equivalent 2024 turnout.

Minneapolis #motonormativity
It’s pretty impressive how the city can fast track spending $20k to remove a painted bikelane (Hennepin south of Lake) because drivers kept parking in it.

I spent a year on a SRTS plan and couldn’t even get a stop sign added to a crosswalk a block from our elementary school to keep kids safe.
There was an open house where they revealed that this was going to be the design about 3 weeks before implementing it. Never went before the council or bicycle/pedestrian advisory committees.

*1400* kids missing from school between Minneapolis and St Paul this year. This is heartbreaking.
Minneapolis Public Schools just emailed to say that enrollment is down this year—likely due to Metro Surge—with 900 fewer English Language Learners compared to this time last year. An estimated $12.9 million less revenue for our schools.

The impacts of ICE on our community continue to mount.

We don't have District Attorneys in Minnesota! This is handled by the Hennepin County Attorney's office, which covers Minneapolis (where this happened).

Put a monument for the people of Minneapolis for this on the National Mall when all is said and done.
I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

I don’t really understand what Trump believes he’ll gain from his incessant authoritarian targeting of Minneapolis, minority groups who live in Minneapolis, and now Minneapolis’s congressional rep, but I wish he’d stop.
Trump calls for Ilhan Omar to immediately resign & says, "please inform our great Speaker, James Michael Johnson that the Democrat Party has conceded her seat ... she will not be allowed to me a member of that body any longer"

Trump's crowd in Iowa then starts chanting "Lock her up! Lock her up!"

The people of Minneapolis are in the streets tonight to demand justice for all lives stolen by police and
ICE.

There was a question, at the time, why the unrest of Minneapolis hadn't spread to the entire country

The answer may be "because Trump lost the Battle of Minneapolis, badly, and so there was no need"

We interrupt this baseball interruption to tell you that Minneapolis passed its total 2022 midterm early vote with 7 full days to go! Maps tomorrow.

After Minneapolis, everyone knew: they could be stopped. More than that, regular people could stop them. You didn’t have to wait for any kind of savior. You could walk out the door and do it yourself.

Minneapolis: come for the world-historical crises, stay for the resulting cheaper home prices!
Median rent as a share of median income of renter households in major U.S. metros, 2010 vs. 2024.

Minneapolis is lowest on the list, at 29%, down from 30.4% in 2010.
