1/ In 2024, I filed a false claims act lawsuit against Elsevier, Springer, Wiley & Informa alleging they systematically overcharged US federal grants for article processing. The gov declined to intervene and now it's public. Some thoughts on what this is, and what it isn't:

a pretty good way to gauge the conversation is whether people are talking about harm or risk
harm is about what's happening now already

Do people understand that this is just starting? The US Gov declining only means that we are now carrying this forward ourselves. I have had a few conversations with folks that thought this meant the case was over.

I really can never get over how amazing Eduroam is. It really *just works* everywhere. What a treat and a luxury it is to be able to go into any academic institution in the world and access their networks.
